While these challenges have eluded effective solutions until now, Wenverter is emerging as a leader in both arenas by offering robust, unique and patented solutions.

I. Green ammonia is synthesized using renewable electricity to power the Haber-Bosch process, combining green hydrogen from electrolysis and nitrogen extracted from atmospheric air. The primary cost driver for green ammonia is the expense of green hydrogen, which constitutes over 90% of total production costs. In contrast, nitrogen purification and the Haber-Bosch process contribute minimally to overall expenses.

To reduce the projected cost of green ammonia, optimizing two key factors is crucial: electrolyzer efficiency and facility capacity factor. Currently, many green ammonia initiatives utilize low-temperature electrolyzers despite their lower efficiency compared to high-temperature models. The challenge lies in maintaining continuous high-temperature electrolyzer operation with intermittent renewable energy sources, which, in addition, affect the facility’s capacity factor.

This challenge has been effectively addressed by Wenverter, whose patented technologies have secured its position as a leader in the field, blocking even major energy corporations from similar innovations.

II. Ocean waves function as a "natural battery system," capturing wind energy and transmitting it over very long distances with negligible losses. The key advantage of wave energy is the ability of wave-trains, generated by diverse wind flows at different ocean locations, to continue traveling even after the winds have subsided. This prolonged energy transfer makes wave energy more suitable for base-load power production compared to wind energy, which is dependent on current wind conditions. Additionally, the predictability of wave-trains approaching a converter surpasses that of wind events reaching a turbine, making wave energy a valuable resource for grid planning. Furthermore, wave energy converters are less visually intrusive than wind turbines, offering a more aesthetically appealing option for a renewable energy installation. As advancements continue in the development of more efficient wave energy converters, wave energy is poised to become the preferred option over wind turbines for coastal communities.

Converting wave energy into usable electricity has been a significant engineering challenge, but at Wenverter, we have successfully “unlocked” wave power and can provide grid electricity on par with offshore wind. Our unique power take-off systems effectively control the chaotic nature of waves, enabling forceful rotations similar to wind turbines.

Vassos founded Wenverter with the vision of “unlocking” the immense potential of wave energy. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he pursued his graduate studies with a full scholarship while actively engaging in graduate research at the MIT Energy Laboratory. During his tenure in the wave energy industry, he played a vital role in the development of more than 15 wave energy converters and power take-off systems before arriving at the refined design of Wenverter's exceptional products.

In his quest for innovation, Vassos has assembled teams of leading experts from the global engineering design and consulting industry, as well as esteemed academic institutions including the University of Edinburgh and MIT. This collaboration of top-tier professionals has played a crucial role in propelling Wenverter to create game-changing solutions in the industry.

Vassos’ leadership has positioned Wenverter as a pioneering leader in harnessing wave energy. His innovative concepts have garnered recognition and support from prestigious organizations, including the US Department of Energy, which honored him with a prestigious national grant award. Additionally, the Marine Energy Alliance / Interreg North-West Europe has provided partial funding for Wenverter's research and development, further validating the novelty and promise of his ideas.

Vassos holds 14 patents in wave energy and graduate degrees in electrical engineering, public policy and technology & policy from UMASS, Amherst, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also the owner of the award-winning Enorasy, a metro Boston-based climate technologies and investments consulting firm.
