Meet the Founder

Vassos Vamvas

Vassos founded Wenverter with the vision of providing solutions to complex engineering challenges through technological innovation and unlocking baseload, dispatchable green electricity and fuels for a more sustainable energy future. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he pursued graduate studies on a full scholarship while actively engaging in research at the MIT Energy Laboratory.

Vassos has consistently pushed the boundaries of energy technology. His early career focused on power plant innovation, developing cutting-edge Thermal Energy Storage (TES) solutions that enhance thermal integration and energy storage within combined cycle plants. His work has contributed to scalable, cost-effective energy systems that help power producers adapt to shifting market demands. Anticipating the intermittency challenges of solar and wind energy, he patented flexible power plants, ensuring adaptability in the energy transition.

Beyond his contributions to power plant innovation, Vassos has played a pivotal role in wave energy technology, leading the development of more than 15 wave energy converters and power take-off (PTO) systems before refining Wenverter's industry-leading solutions.

His commitment to technological excellence has driven him to assemble leading experts from global engineering firms and prestigious academic institutions, including Harvard, MIT, and the University of Edinburgh. This elite collaboration has been instrumental in Wenverter’s groundbreaking advancements in power generation technologies.

Vassos’ pioneering contributions have been recognized and supported by prestigious organizations. The U.S. Department of Energy awarded him a national grant for his work in energy innovation, and the Marine Energy Alliance / Interreg North-West Europe provided funding for Wenverter’s research and development, further validating the impact of his work.

He holds 14 patents spanning wave energy, thermal energy storage, and power plant flexibility. In addition to leading Wenverter, he is the founder of Enorasy, a Boston-based consulting firm specializing in energy investments, where he advises global companies on high-impact, market-driven energy innovations.
